Law Week

Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement invites you to our 2025 Law Week Panel Presentation: UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Aboriginal Deaths in Custody

The Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody was established in 1987 and examined the deaths of the 99 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who died in custody between 1 January 1980 and 31 May 1989. The Royal Commission made 339 Recommendations yet deaths of Aboriginal people in custody continue.

Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement will share some of the outcomes of Coronial Inquests into the deaths of Aboriginal people in custody since the Royal Commission and consider some of the recommendations that urgently need to be implemented arising from the Royal Commission and more recent Coronial Inquests.

Our CPD will incorporate a panel presentation including counsel representing families of those who died in Coronial Inquests. It is free and will attract one CPD point in professional skills.
