Sandra Saunders is a Ngarrindjeri artist and activist. She played a major role in the protesting over the Hindmarsh Island Bridge controversy. She has exhibited her art widely and works as a sculptor and painter using mixed media.
Sandra Saunders has been a previous ALRM Director in the 1990s. She assumed the directorship of ALRM in about 1987/88 having previously had a successful career assisting Aboriginal people in the public service of South Australia.
The first and most notable of her achievements was the setting up of the ALRM Native Title Unit, and the Royal Commission Monitoring Unit. As Sandra’s directorship coincided with the release of the final report of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody, it was important to ensure that the implementation of the final report was closely monitored.
