VACANCY – ABORIGINAL FIELD OFFICER

Aboriginal Legal Rights Movements (ALRM) was established in 1973 and work for the advancement and protection of legal, cultural, political and social rights of Aboriginal people and communities in South Australia.

 

ALRM has an exciting opportunity for a motivated person to become part of their team as an Aboriginal Field Officer (AFO).   AFO’s are the first point of contact for many Aboriginal people who come into contact with the Criminal Justice system. The role of Aboriginal field officers is to provide legal support and advice to Aboriginal people who are detained in police or prison custody or who have to attend court.

 

AFO’s assist lawyers with clients and work closely with other services, Government and non-Government organisations to support the needs of clients.   AFO’s are required to maintain strong links with Aboriginal communities and to assist Aboriginal people to become more aware of their legal rights and responsibilities in relation to the law.  AFO’s also inform senior staff of problems and issues that arises in Aboriginal communities throughout South Australia.

 

Essential Requirements

  • SA Drivers Licence
  • Working with children DCSI clearance

 

Salary : $52,343 per year PLUS On-Call Allowance $2,644 per year

(plus $15,900 Salary Sacrifice entitlements)

 

The filling of this position is accordance with exemption under the Equal Opportunity Act 1984.  The Aboriginal Field Officer is only open to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander persons.
